Illuminating letters: driving creativity
A visual essay on why Formula 1 is creative fuel
Dear reader,
Today is a very exciting day. 20 cars are testing their potential in Bahrain and I am going to be glued to my radio.
I should explain, over the last few years an inordinate amount of my time has been invested in becoming a Formula 1 fan.
This new passion has led overwhelmingly to one response “Why? I don’t see the appeal of cars going round and round in circles”. It’s the question I would have asked before as well.
As this newsletter is fast becoming something of a place for answers I wish I had given, here’s what I should have said about why Formula 1 is a creative salve for me.
If this has piqued your interest in F1 and you’re race ready, here are some of the things to watch out for this season:
I did also make this month’s letter as an excuse to design the race map of my dreams. You can pick up your own copy as a fold-out in my race season warm up zine, which includes illustrations of every car on the grid.
If you buy a copy of the zine and pull-out poster for yourself or a friend who is/should be an F1 fan, you’ll be support Women in Sport.
That’s all for this month.
Thanks for all of your support on the first letter, it’s meant an awful lot.
Write/draw again soon,
Natalie

THIS. IS. SO. COOL. I absolutely love this connection!! This is exactly how I feel about American football. I’ve never seen anyone else put it into words before.
Thank you so much for putting all of this together. You should be so proud, and I hope you enjoy the racing season!
